Allover Echoed Swirls Free Motion Quilting Tutorial! Pixelated Blooms Quilting from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Echoed Swirls are my new favorite free motion quilting stitch!

The stitch is exactly like it sounds, a swirl with one or two echoes around it. But this simple stitch really elevates the look of the swirl, making any quilt you use it on look super fancy.

Usually I use it as a background filler, so this is the first time I’ve used is as a allover design and I absolutely love it! The texture it creates is amazing and really made my Pixelated Blooms quilt look beautiful.

In this video I show you how to stitch the allover ...

Pixelated Blooms: Fat Quarter Strip-Pieced Quilt Pattern from Quilt Addicts Anonymous! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Pixelated Blooms is a very fun strip-pieced pattern that will allow you to bust your stash.

Follow the color combinations in the pattern when selecting fat quarters to create a square flower, or pull 2 1/2-inch strips from your stash to make it super scrappy in any color combination.

The techniques used are not hard, but you will want to label your pieces for a smooth finish.

This stash-busting pattern is part of the Stashin’ with Stephanie series, where Quilt Addicts Anonymous founder Stephanie Soebbing releases a new fat quarter pattern each month. Learn more at this link: https ...

18 Carat Revisited: Fat Quarter Half Square Triangle Quilt that’s WAY easier than it looks! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

There’s nothing better than an easy pattern that looks complicated. That‘s what you get with 18 Carat Revisited.

The blocks for this quilt are created by slicing up half square triangles to create the angled strips that make up the spiky block design.

This pattern is a re-imagined version of 18 Carat, which creates the same block using a 10-inch square pack.

18 Carat Revisited has been resized to use up just about every inch of a fat quarter, so it’s a thrifty way to bust your stash or use up your favorite fat quarter bundle.

I ...

Quilting Cosmos – Quilting a pebble background filler and rulerwork for an EPIC quilt! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

***The full 1-hour, 28-minute COMMERCIAL-FREE course on how to quilt Cosmos is available here: https://academy.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/course/quilting-a-pebble-background-filler-and-rulerwork-cosmos/

When I took on the task of quilting Cosmos, designed by Stephanie Brennan using my fabric collection Nocturne, I knew it needed to be epic.

I chose separate quilting designs for each border, all three blocks and background. I chose an organic pebble background filler and then used sharp lines of rulerwork for the rest of the quilt to make the design elements of the blocks and borders stand out from the background.

We have two versions of this quilting ...

Quilting Celestial: Custom Diamond Wavy Lines from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

I had exactly one day to quilt Celestial, our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt. So I needed a quilting design that was both fast, and would do justice to the spectacular diamonds throughout the quilt. I ended up with something I lovingly called the Wavy Line Special.

I followed the shape of the diamonds to quilt five wavy lines inside of each diamond in the quilt blocks, and seven inside each of the background diamonds. It was super fast and easy with just a little bit of rulerwork to travel in the diamonds.

The result was being able to quilt ...

Celestial: Strip-pieced, no Y-seam diamonds make this quilt fast! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

This month’s new fat quarter friendly pattern is inspired by this month’s featured fabric, Zen by Sue Zipkin for Clothworks.

Celestial is one of my favorite types of quilt designs, one that looks way more complicated than it actually is. The blocks are assembled using strip piecing and no Y-seams, so the quilt top comes together very quickly.

The original is made with specific placements of fabrics to create the beautiful color change that is repeated in each block. But it could also be made scrappy.

A 60-degree triangle ruler with all three points, like the Clearview Triangle ...

Echoed Swirls Background Filler + Rulerwork – How I quilted Singularity from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Singularity, our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt design, featured large sections of negative space that were just begging for some fun quilting.

I know that negative space can sometimes be intimidating because as a quilter we feel pressure to do something super fancy in it. But I chose echoed swirls to fill the space with a fun, modern texture that looks great but wasn’t too difficult.

I love using quilting stitches that are very different in the background versus the piecing to help separate the two spaces. So I chose some simple rulerwork in the triangles to help accent ...

Sound Waves: Modern Fat Quarter Pattern with NO WASTE! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

This month’s new fat quarter friendly pattern is inspired by this month’s featured fabric, Wishwell Prairie Song by Leslie Tucker Jenison for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

This is the third time we’ve featured a Wishwell collection for Stashin’ with Stephanie, and it has sold out every time. The bold, digital prints in a graffiti-like texture and rich colors are always a stunning combination.

I developed Sound Waves to highlight this stunning modern fabric. The pattern uses an entire fat quarter with no waste, so it’s great for quilters who don‘t like leftovers at the end of ...

Creating Knitted Texture with Quilting! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

This month’s Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt design, Cables, was inspired by my other crafting love … knitting. Since the design resembles a knitted cable pattern, I thought it was only appropriate that I carry the knitting theme through to the quilting as well.

I created a 1-inch square “V” stitch to mimic the look of the stockinette knitting stitch, where all the knit stitches are on the right side and all the purl bumps are on the wrong side.

This is a very easy stitch to master and it doesn’t matter if they are all perfect, because in the ...

My love of knitting and quilting cross paths with Cables! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

It’s Stashin’ with Stephanie time again! This month’s new fat quarter friendly pattern is inspired by this month’s featured fabric, Delilah by Esther Fallon Lau for Clothworks.

Cables was inspired by my love of knitting and fear of knitting cables. The classic stitch pattern look of crossing yarns is created in quilt form through careful placement of fabrics according to color value, so it is a great pattern for mixing low volume and dark prints.

The majority of the quilt is strip-pieced, making it a fast project. I got my lap-sized version done from start to finish ...

It’s no secret that I love everything Shell Rummel creates.

We have collaborated many times and I’ve made a quilt out of every one of her collections except one that came out early in the pandemic when I trying to figure out how to homeschool a kindergartener, care for a newborn and run a business.

My life hasn’t slowed down yet, but that collection is waiting for me when it does.

Shell’s latest line with FreeSpirit Natural Affinity is absolutely gorgeous, filled with beautiful serene scenes from the seashore. The colors are calming and an absolute ...

Loopy Meander & Daisy Free Motion Quilting Combo – Quilting Blooming Star from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

I’m going to be totally honest, this isn’t my favorite quilting ever. But I think it’s important to show you when my sewing projects don’t go as planned so you know you’re not alone when it happens to you too.

I wanted to do a swirl design in each and every diamond to help echo the design in the quilting. I’ve used similar approaches in other diamond quilts and the results are always stunning.

But my entire family has COVID, and I had one day when we cleared out Quilt Addicts Anonymous so I ...

Shop T-Shirt Quilt supplies here: https://shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/product-category/t-shirt-quilt/

In today’s video I am showing you how to add sashing and cornerstones to your T-Shirt Quilt. The sashing and cornerstones are a fun design element cut from quilting cotton.

The fabric allows you to tie the T-Shirts together with a central color theme, which gives the eye a place to rest in between all the T-Shirt designs.

The quilting cotton is also thinner than the T-Shirts with interfacing, so ...

Straight line quilting on the longarm + Why I HATE channel locks! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Today I’m showing you how I used straight line quilting on the longarm to quilt Subway our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt design.

I also tell you why I will use a ruler 100% of the time over channel locks in order to get perfectly spaced straight lines when quilting on my longarm.

If you don’t have a longarm, don’t worry. You can absolutely quilt straight lines on your home sewing machine using a walking foot. I think it was the perfect choice for this quilt because it is utilitarian, but also chic and modern, just like ...

Changing Density with Wavy Lines – Intro to Free Motion Quilting from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Welcome to our Intro Free Motion Quilting series! We are so excited about this course so we can help give you the confidence to finish your quilts yourself on your home sewing machine or longarm.

In our previous stitches I showed you how changing scale can change the look of your quilting design. With wavy lines, you change the density of the lines to change the look.

In other words, you can keep them far apart for a loose look with a lot of drape, or you can quilt close together for a more dense appearance and a stiffer quilt ...
